A world without mosquitoes

First of all, it is impossible. Even if that happens it will happen after the extinction of humans. Yes, mosquitoes are more tolerant than humans and more frequently undergo gene modifications to adapt to external change.

Let's assume they vanished. What will happen? So let's unlock this question in the better way possible.

Mosquitoes have been around for more than 100 million years. This means they’ve co-evolved with thousands of species all along the way. And with more than 3,500 named species of mosquito, they play a big part in many ecosystems. Out of these 3,500 mosquitoes only around 200 mosquitoes cause harm to human beings and only female mosquitoes bites. Although they are the deadliest disease-causing insect in humans, simultaneously also have a positive role in the environment to a certain extent.

Let’s see the negative and positive aspects of these tiny creatures(mosquitoes):-

Negative Aspects

  1. Mosquito bites can cause skin irritation through an allergic reaction to the mosquito’s saliva — this is what causes the red bump and itching.
  2. Mosquito bites may be the transmission of serious diseases and viruses such as malaria, dengue virus, Zika, and West Nile virus, which can lead to disabling and potentially deadly effects (such as encephalitis, meningitis, and microcephaly).
  3. Mosquitoes put 40% of the world at risk for dengue, which causes “the feeling of broken bones.”
  4. Mosquitoes increase the risk of yellow fever.

Positive Aspects

  1. Mosquito larvae for their survival feed on certain algae present in the water and convert them into tissues of their own body. When fishes feed on larvae, they become nutritiously packed food for them playing a role in the aquatic food chain.
  2. Male mosquitoes eat nectar and, in the process, pollinate all manner of plants.
  3. Mosquitoes are also an important food source for many other animals, including bats, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and even other insects.
  4. Only the females of some mosquito species need blood to get the proteins necessary to lay eggs.
  5. Serving as a food source for other animals is how they fit into the various food chains in places where they live.

So next time when you curse a mosquito bite and wish for these insects to be eradicated, then think not just of the mosquito. Think of all the plant and animal species since all the species are dependent on one another for our planet to survive and thrive.

Every creature has a role in the ecosystem and the whole food chain can collapse if any species as small as a mosquito or as large as the blue whale is removed. But researchers differ on whether their absence would be disastrous. Some believe some other creature would take their place.

EVERY COIN MUST HAVE TWO SIDES.
